Here we go!
It was a long build up to our open day, with posters and online advertising in place some weeks before the event. As the day approached, volunteers came forward to blow up balloons, bake cakes, meet and greet the visitors and introduce them to the game with a few ends or some target practice.
Here is Martina, showing the men how it's done, very much like her performance in the men vs ladies match the day before!
Here are Dave and Terry showing their balloon-blowing prowess, with - hang on, who is that on the left....?
The weather
Now as we know, the weather always features prominently in our activities. This day was no exception. When Mike N arrived and set to swishing the green, the sun was shining.
Kim wandered up and down, tying balloons to anything that would stay still long enough and creating a trail from the car park to the club. It was warm work, and a good job that Mal and Chris were there to supply cool drinks from the bar!
Captain Chris arrived with Corriene, and did his bit by testing out the green in the sunshine. However, as you can see from this photo, clouds were starting to gather. Can anyone recognise the tiny figure at the far end of the green?
It wasn't long before the heavens opened. For a few of us, this was merely the first soaking of the day.
A decent turnout
After a slow start, we had a steady trickle of visitors during the day. Some were local to Banwell, with others coming from Locking and a few from the centre of Weston. Most enjoyed their bowling session, and a few decided to join the club there and then.
There was a good atmosphere in the club throughout the day, particularly when rain stopped play and everyone piled in to seek shelter. The tea and cake was popular, as was the bar.
Thanks to all
Thanks to all the many members who turned up to help, along with the bakers and all those who spruced up the club, set up the equipment, teas and coffees and did the washing up afterwards.
