It was a bit of a dull morning as we opened up the clubhouse for our coffee morning, in aid of the captain's charity, Freewheelers (click here to find out more about them). Our two friends from the charity arrived with some leaflets, but all of the bikes were tied up elsewhere, so unfortunately, they were unable to show them off this time.
We were offering bacon rolls, alongside coffee and cake with all proceeds going to our charity.
There were tables with plants and other items for sale and a table groaning with raffle prizes donated by club members. Dee did a good job selling raffle tickets, and was aided by Wendy in drawing the raffle/ giving out the prizes.
A busy morning
As well as activities that were part of the coffee morning, there was also a match on. Sue T and Rob S were playing Brian and Leigh in a 2 wood pairs semifinal. They started early, but got caught in a deluge and came in to mingle with the crowd until the rain blew over.
The match attracted an audience, in spite of the damp conditions
Once Mal had completed his draw for the whisky, which Sue won, he joined Trevor on the steps to watch the match.
Eventually Sue and Rob S won, with loud applause from the crowd.
Also on offer was the chance to have a go at bowling, with a spot of coaching available. The weather may have put some off, but a couple of people took up the opportunity.
Meanwhile, back in the clubhouse...
By now, the clubhouse was filling with people.
The hot bacon rolls and cakes went down well. Chris L ran out of rolls halfway through the morning due to the high demand; the handful of volunteers making tea and coffee to go with the cake were kept busy all morning, as people sampled the many different cakes (and savouries) brought in by members.
And finally..
Thanks to all who helped by making cakes, setting up the club, bringing things to sell, serving our visitors and taking part in the fundraising activities.
We raised over £400 for Freewheelers. Well done, all!
