Match report, week ending 19th August

Over 55s at home to Clevedon Prom,13th Aug

What a great result!

I said last week how difficult it was to predict the outcome of bowls matches, after a disappointing result against Ashcombe to then play the second in the league and win so comfortably.

I am happy to announce that Phil Villis and his team have rink of the week, by winning by 15 shots; he has put together some good results over the summer.

We won on four rinks, drew on another, and went down on one rink by only five shots.

The scores are as follows: Banwell 107 shots, Clevedon Prom, 81 shots giving us a win of 26 shots, points were 17 Banwell, Clevedon 3.

There were a lot of changes made this week because of ill health and family commitments, so thanks to all of  you who stood in at the last moment. Indeed, my thanks to all who played.

Ladies' triples day at West Backwell, 13th Aug

The Banwell Babes and Belles had an pleasant trip to West Backwell last week, meeting up with familiar faces at the final triples day of the season.

We very much enjoyed the bowling, although the Belles lost all 4 games. We didn't even win the raffle! The Babes were following the same path, but they recovered for the final match and won 8-6.

Congratulations to our friends Pam Gibbons and Pauline Mabbutt, who played so well they won the tournament!

Thanks to all the Banwell ladies who took part in the triples days this year.

A team away at Portishead RBL, 17th Aug

A very rare loss on all 3 rinks on a very difficult rink.

I Don't have the cards so no breakdown.

B Team at home to Portishead, 17th Aug

Against the promotion favourites, we saw a win on Alan Vickery's rink by 5 shots. We had a loss on Mike N's rink by the same margin, but playing a very powerful rink meant Harry could not tip the win in our favour.

2 points this week.

Mixed Friendly at home to Yatton, 18th Aug

A shout out to Alan Vickery's grandson Mr H Biddlecombe, playing in a match for the very first time. The opposition captain, Pat, even mentioned him in dispatches.

Well done lad! More next season please.

We won on two rinks and lost on two. The final score was a narrow loss, 66-68 and was played in good spirits and nice weather.

What more could you ask for?

The umbrella competition, week 14, 19th Aug

Firstly, a reminder next week is the final week of the competition, and is a Fancy Dress evening with Fish and Chips, or alternative on request.

The penultimate umbrella was on a wet and dark evening, and saw two hardy sets of players playing on two rinks. There was a big win for Wayne Butcher, Martin Brand and Kim Wright versus a strong combination of Martina, Angela and Jan Davies. Kim Wright in this team now leads the way, pipping Dave Allen at the top.

The other rink saw a 3 v 2 with Bob Grant and Doreen beating Dave W, Dave and Janice Grant 14 - 12.

There is still all to play for. Next week the leaders will be kept apart.
