Over 55's knockout cup at home to Burnham-on-Sea 18th Jun
We had a comfortable win against Burnham 109 shots to 88 to put us into the next round, we had two rinks going for rink of the day.
John Wright and his team also Allan Shattock and his team both winning by 14 shots so well done to those teams .We won on four rinks, losing on a couple Phil Villis just missing out by one shot.
Over 55's league at home to Clarence Blues, 19th June
On Thursday we entertained Clarence Blues in the league.
OH! Dear the wheels fell off the wagon rather, and were well beaten by 111 shots to 76. It was a poor result, so we must dust ourselves down and be ready for the next game. I know some of felt that you let the side; down don't think like that! No-one sets out to have a poor game. As Captain, I was as happy with everyone who played, as I was with the team that beat Burnham - we were simply outplayed.
The rink of the day goes to Terry Byrnes - well done; Barry Taylor had a good draw on his rink - also well done. The score, as I have said was 76 shots Banwell, 111 shots Clarence Blues. Points awarded are 17 Clarence 3 to Banwell.
Thanks to all who played.
Allan Shattock
A team away to Wedmore B, 22nd June
The A team had a pretty strong side out, and the rink skipped by Alan Shattock ran out with a very solid 24-11 win, whilst Phil Villis's team recorded a tidy victory by two (18-16). Hilary Guckian's rink were beaten, but rallied late in the game to make it look respectable losing by six (19-13).
A solid 10-2 win overall though on points (55-46)
John Wright
B team at home to Wrington, 22nd June
A very tight game to 2nd in the league Wrington saw the last few ends on all rinks battling hard. Unfortunately we did drop 3, pick up 3 and give away 3 right at the death.
This ended in a 54-51 loss, but a win by Harry Woodards, aided by magic Mike Bass with the winning shot meant we didn't end up empty handed gaining 2 points.
Mixed friendly at home to Ashcombe, 23rd June.
Firstly, thanks to Herr Cochaine back from Deutschland and Mal Laycock yet again giving any free time he thought he had for the umpteenth time, to replace those who had to drop out.
Chris was behind the bar on her own, same as Mal, giving everything and a little bit more for the gazzilionth time. All those who mucked in to help the catering and cleaning was a pleasure to behold.
A huge thank you to all.
On to the match. We won on two rinks skipped by Mac Kirby and Mike Nickson in tight games. A 'shot of the day' contender saw Mal Laycock pick up an almost impossible shot to earn a hard fought point. Losses on the three other rinks were too much for us to gain the win but an enjoyable day was had by all.
Well done to all the new players gaining good experience.
Mike Nickson, vice Captain
The umbrella competition, 24th June
The weather was good for the 18 players this week. "Is the flag up?" Mike Turnbull organised expertly as always. Dave Allen still leads the way by a good margin. Wendy and Martina leapfrog Angela into joint 2nd place. See the latest results table here
Can I remind people we do have a fancy dress at the end of the year but now is not the time to test out some ideas. There is a dress code to uphold. White or team tops and grey shorts or trousers.
Is the flag down Mr Turnbull?
Mike Nickson
