Over 55s at home to Winscombe,23rd Aug
That was a marvellous result, taking all the points, and winning on all rinks! Halfway though we were down on three rinks; very well done to those rinks who turned it around.
Alan Vickery's rink came back to win by one shot. The rink of the week goes to Paul Aldus with an impressive 24 shot win so well done to his team.
If we beat Mark Moor on Tuesday, and then Nailsea the following week, we might end up in third position, which would be an excellent conclusion to the season.
The all-important scores are Banwell 133 shots, Winscombe 74. The points allocated were Banwell 20, Winscombe 0.
Well done to everyone and thanks.

North Somerset Bowls Association Knockout Cup final, 25th Aug at West Backwell
Today was the day that some of us experienced a final for the first time, out of the 16 teams that took part in the competition. We came up against Clevedon, the reigning champions. Their team was packed full of county winners, as well as current and ex England players.
Many Banwell members not playing in the match turned up to cheer on the team.
We feared the worst, and we were never truly expected to produce a shock despite a few rinks of ours giving their opponents a scare and keeping them honest. Needless to say we came second by quite a long way......
Next year is our year!

The final umbrella competition, 26th Aug
Firstly, a huge thank you to all those that took part this year and supported me in the background.
The final day's results were extremely close with a margin of a mere five shots separating the top four players. It was Kim Wright who held on to the lead despite a massive push from those just behind.
Congratulations to Kim!

A Monday roll up will be on for the few remaining Mondays of the season.

Fancy dress and fish'n'chips!
From Morris Dancers to caveman Amos, clowns to a Sherlock Holmes and a naughty schoolboy and girl, the fancy dress was well received, with Bob Grant winning the draw for a Jamieson's, much to the envy of a certain caveman.
Then on to the fish n chips which was excellent from our friends in Winscombe.

In other news....
It is less than 3 weeks to go until finals day, and all are busy finishing off their matches to decide the finalists. The schedule for the day will be circulated towards the end of next week.
If you are not playing on the day, please come along and support. We are planning to have a 'bring a plate' buffet lunch to support our finalists, but also to celebrate a special day for Mal and Chris Laycock, on their 50th wedding anniversary. They will be celebrating in their usual spot, behind the bar, so please come along and join in - and bring some finger food to share.
For our current champions, it's time to relinquish your silverware! So dig it out from wherever it's been for the past year, give it a good clean and polish, and return to the clubhouse before the finals.
