The umbrella competition, 27th May
A bank holiday Monday saw a reduced number at Umbrella with 17 players enjoying a lovely evening. The scoring sheet will be posted from next week onwards, and updated weekly.
Ladies' friendly at home to Yatton, 28th May.
The ladies had an enjoyable match against Yatton ladies on Tuesday 28th. Kim and Angie’s teams were both leading early on but finally lost by very small margins. Wendy’s team fared less well against a strong Yatton trio but there were good performances across the board. Well done to Doreen, who stepped in at the last minute for her first match.

Over 55s away to Victoria Vikings, 30th May
As much as I have a great affinity with Victoria being the first club I joined and had many happy years there, I am delighted with the result that we achieved on Thursday, winning on five rinks and drawing on the other one. The star rink this week went to J Wright and co winning 31-13. Well done, my rink. We were down 9-17 after 10 ends and pulled off a good win. All credit goes to J Rickerty and R Saddler for pulling it back; I like to think that I might have helped. So to all of you give yourselves a pat on the back - well done.
Scores were Banwell 121 - Victoria 91, Points 19 Banwell - 1 Victoria. We have now won more games than lost.

Mixed friendly at Home to touring side Brixham St Marys, 31st May
We welcomed the Devon team for their first game of their tour on a glorious sunny day. Despite heavy traffic and a late arrival, we did manage to complete a reduced 15 end match. This was in our favour, with a 87-64 win. There were losses on 3 rinks and wins on 3 rinks, with the biggest win going to Harold Clarke's team 25-3.
Thank you to the visitors for the commemorative plaque, which we will display in the clubhouse. An invite for a visit to their domain was also given, so we will see.
NSBA 4 Dimensions Cup at home to Wedmore, 2nd June.
June already and another sunny day saw us lose on all 4 rinks, some very close and others not so with a score 63 - 87.
John Wright in the singles succumbed on the 28th end in a mighty tussle of a match, finishing 19 - 21. Barry Taylor and Harold Clarke lost by just 2 shots 19 - 21. Chris Wilson's triple team led at the halfway mark and were only 2 shots behind on the 16th end but couldn't quite manage the win losing 18 - 12. Alan Vickery's team couldn't hang on to the opposition's coattails in the rinks game losing 27-13.

And, in other news..
We've been a bit short on the raffle takings on a couple of occasions recently. This affects the quality of the raffle prizes and amount of funds the clubs raises. Please can everyone make sure they don't drop in a 10p or other coin instead of a pound when buying raffle tickets. Thanks, from Dee
Our Waverley trip around Steepholm and Flatholm takes place on Wednesday evening. There are still places available, if anyone wants to go. See here for details, and to book direct with the company, as I don't think you can go without pre-booking
