Over 55s at home to Mark Moor, 31st July
It was a change to welcome Mark Moor to Banwell, as they haven't been to us for a while.
I hope you all agreed with me in allowing Mark Moor to bring in a substitute for one of their players, if he was unable to manage the whole match. The person in question has had heart surgery, and it was his first game back. With several of our players with various medical issues, it would be good to think that other clubs would afford us the same consideration. Unfortunately, the substitution happened on one of the rinks that went down.
It was a very enjoyable game played on a very warm afternoon. On my rink, it was very tight all the way through, ending 16 shots apiece. Rob Saddler narrowly missed out by one shot. However, we have a new rink of the week that is Hillary Guckian and team, winning by 17 shots, so well done.
Using a very old catch phrase, " the scores on the doors" were Banwell 120 shots to Mark Moor 95 shots. We won on three rinks, drawing on one rink, 7 points, with Mark Moor winning on two rinks, drawing on one - 5 points - so we collected 15 points to 5.
Well done and thanks.
Next week we entertain Ashcombe Templars.

Mixed friendly against touring side Llantrisant, 2nd Aug
The return of our friends from Llantrisant was a hugely entertaining event, played in an exceptional spirit - it seemed everyone had a fine day. It was a close game with the touring team taking the honours this time round.
As per last year their rink with the biggest loss had to sing in front of everyone. A plot twist this year as we joined in with ours too.
We really must return the favour, and organise a match at their venue.
A team home to Ashcombe B, 3rd Aug
It was a close loss to high flying Aschombe A, who have a chance of promotion.
On Chris Wilson's rink we came back from 10-1 down to lose narrowly at the end, scoring 18-15.
B team at away to Ashcombe, 3rd Aug
It was a fine win 72-47, picking up 10 points. it was wins for Trevor Garfield's and Hillary's rinks that did the damage, with a narrow loss for Alan Vickery's team.
The umbrella competition, week 12, 29th July
In an interesting variation to competition this week, everyone was mixed, and then drawn, regardless of position in the team. Janis and Dave A did a good job in their first go as skips on rink 4.
On rink 3, Sue's team lost in spite of a sensational 6 on the last end. In a spooky coincidence, Sue drew out a 6 in the monthly draw and guess how much the winner won.....? £6!
Dave still remains at the top of the umbrella table, closely chased by Martina, Jan D, Wendy, Kim and Janis.
